Today's Japanese phrases are 'ganbatte' and 'nippon'.
'ganbatte' is a very useful phrase and means 'work hard' originally. But it contains various meanings. When you want to say, 'do one's best', 'cheer up', 'hold on' or even 'take it easy', you can use this phrase.
As the Japanese like to use 'ganbatte', you will undoubtedly hear this word in Japan. For instance, when you encourage somebody else, 'ganbatte' can be used. so just before taking an exam, you can say 'ganbatte' to other classmates. In this case, it means, 'good luck on your exam' or 'take it easy'.
'ganbatte' can be used by both sexes. If you are male, you can also say 'ganbare' and if you are female, you can say 'ganbattene'.
As 'gangatte' is such a common and popular phrase, 'ganbare nippon' was a slogan of a past Olympic games in order to cheer up the Japanese athletes. 'nippon' and 'nihon' stand for 'Japan' in Japanese.
