Since Japan is famous for its electronic products and neon lights at night and its high rate of population density, some people think the Japanese have developed their land throughout, and there is only a small part of nature left.
In fact, about 70 percent of the land in Japan is covered with forest so there are lots of mountains that make Japan a more interesting place. You can go skiing in winter and mountain climbing in the summer.
Moreover, you could have ‘momijigari’ which means maple-leaf viewing in autumn. Some of the leaves on the trees turn into red or yellow before falling off.
I would go to ‘momijigari’ with my family in my early school days on our weekend. My dad would drive a car to a mountain and when he found a good site to see ‘kouyo’ which means red leaves, he would stop driving and park just on the road and we would look at it. It was really beautiful
But when I became a teenager, I was reluctant to go there, simply because it became boring as a teenager. Actually it is much popular among family with children and the elderly who like natural stuff.
If you have a chance, ‘momijigari’ and to see ‘kouyo’ are something you can enjoy in Japanese autumn.
Matane!
